Meet the Team 
 

Payton is a second-year Ph.D. student originally from Houston, Texas. She earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees in Exercise and Sport Science at Texas State University in San Marcos, TX, where she conducted research in the Clinical Biomechanics and Exercise Physiology Laboratory under Dr. John Farrell III. Her master's work focused on the fatigue threshold marker critical power and the parameter W' during high-intensity interval exercise protocols. Currently, Payton serves as a graduate part-time instructor for the applied exercise physiology lab and is involved in research at the Neuromuscular and Occupational Performance Laboratory. She is particularly excited about her upcoming research with tactical athletes, aiming to optimize performance in this unique population. 

Grammy is a second-year master's student who recently received her undergraduate degree in Kinesiology from Texas Tech University in the Spring of 2024. She has been working with Dr. Mota in the research lab since Spring 2023 and is currently working on her master's degree in Human Performance. Her research interests include analyzing ultrasounds as well as investigating tactical strength and conditioning. In addition, Grammy is currently working as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in the Department of Kinesiology and Sport Management where she is an instructor for physical fitness and wellness classes.

Ryne is a fourth-year undergraduate student originally from Canyon, Texas. She is currently studying nutrition at Texas Tech University. Following Ryne's graduation from TTU, she plans to earn her medical doctorate and work as a neonatologist. She has enjoyed gaining knowledge about research and working with participants. 

Avery is a third-year undergraduate student from Mansfield, Texas. She is currently studying Microbiology with a minor in Spanish at Texas Tech University. Currently on the pre-medical track, she plans to attend medical school with an interest in pursuing Oncology. Working in NOPL, she has developed a special interest in electromyography (EMG) and enjoys working with participants. 

Karley is a third-year undergraduate student from Lubbock, Texas. She is currently studying Animal Science with a concentration in Science. After graduating, Karley plans to attend graduate school and study either meat science or reproductive physiology. Her favorite NOPL technique is the ultrasound imaging device, and has enjoyed developing research posters and sharing her work with others.

Corie is a second-year undergraduate student from Streetman, Texas. She is currently studying kinesiology with a minor in chemistry. After undergrad, she plans to attend medical school, focusing on orthopedics and sports medicine. She has enjoyed learning about the research process and looks forward to gaining hands-on experience in the lab.

Canyon is a third-year undergraduate student from Whitney, TX. He is studying Biology with minors in Chemistry and Spanish. He plans on obtaining my MD and to work as an orthopedic surgeon post-graduation. His favorite NOPL technique is EMG. 

Katherine is a third-year undergraduate student from Mansfield, Texas. She is currently studying Kinesiology with a minor in General Business at Texas Tech University. Following graduation, Katherine plans to work in prosthetic and orthotic medical device sales. Working in NOPL, she has been able to gain knowledge and experience with several different lab devices and methods, and has learned how to target specific audiences to participate in labs.
